It’s time for a foundation round up, now that we’re transitioning into the warmer months (if you’re from the UK, then our summer has already been and gone but we can pretend for nice weather again, right?). I have tried and tested a handful of bases, so heres my edit, by coverage and finish. All tried and tested on my normal-combination skin, these days my skin is more dry around my forehead, oily down the nose and pretty normal everywhere else.
If you have a completely different skin type to me, I would highly recommend checking out Reviews.com/foundation, they have a full list of foundations – tried and tested on different skin types– to help you find the right finish, shade and formula for you.
No matter what season we’re in, or going into, I will always reach for a full coverage base. The formula and finish are the only thing I change this time of year. It’s time to pack away all of your matte full coverage bases and reach for something dewy, luminous and SPF infused.
LIGHT AND DEWY
Bourjois Happy Light– I hardly ever reach for this foundation these days but only because my skin needs coverage, more than it ever did. It has a natural coverage, with a soft focus glow to it. It’s lovely for a no-makeup day or as a main base on good skin days.
The Ordinary Serum Foundation– The Ordinary is a brand that I am quite familiar with; getting on board with the big hype around the low prices and quality of the products. They have recently brought out two ranges of foundations, the serum and the full coverage. The incredibly low prices means it’s sold out constantly everywhere, however I managed to pick up my shade in the Deciem store in London. The Serum foundation is one that I would reach for during the summer months, its light weight, skin-like and gives a very natural coverage. My favourite way to wear this foundation is mixed with a stick foundation for added coverage.
Eborian CC Cream– This is something that I feature more during the summer months as the one-shade-fits-all rule is more my tanned shade than when I am pale. It’s ideal to wear on holidays, it has SPF 25, making it the perfect protector when your skin is exposed to the sun.
Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser– This is one of my favourite tinted moisturiser formulas, its not like your typical greasy, sheer tinted moisturisers. It’s more of a natural foundation with a lightweight texture, which makes your skin glow from within. It’s one of my holy grail base products and would highly recommend you try it out for yourself.
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation– I used to use this foundation religiously until my skin demanded more coverage. It gives a second skin finish, it’s fresh and lightweight. I recommend this formula for a natural coverage, dewy base. I used to use 10 beige all year round but when I have a tan I use 20 beige which gives more of a warmth glow.
Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Oil-Free Moisture Cushion- Not a foundation but the perfect moisturiser for the summer months. It adds a glow and a natural bounce back to the skin, I’ve been wearing this under all of my favourite liquid foundations for a natural summer glow.
Nars 413 BLKR Illuminator- I picked this up in New York City in the Nars store on Bleeker Street, I like to wear this all over the face under liquid foundations or on its own on good skin days. This is the perfect product for the summer time to add into moisturisers, foundations or to just wear alone.
Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist- Another skincare product that I always reach for during the summer months. I always sprits this in the morning before my usual skincare routine.
Makeup Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation– Dewy and build able full coverage. This foundation is my go-to at the moment, I like to mix it with a liquid foundation for a flawless finish.
L’oreal Pro Glow Foundation– Have I raved about this product enough yet? Read my full review here, I’ve recommended this dewy base to everyone but sadly it’s not sold in the UK just yet (however I’ve found a seller on eBay here). I have the shade 202 for reference.
Makeup Forever Ultra HD Liquid Foundation– I wear this foundation when I want something that will last. It’s a medium but build-able coverage, I also have a lot of shades of this foundation in my makeup kit because it’s flawless and suits any skin type.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation– Just like the MUFE Stick foundation, this one is lightweight, creamy and has a satin finish. I also like to mix this one with a liquid foundation for a flawless finish.
L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation– This base offering is more on the sheer to medium coverage side but it is very dewy and light on the skin. I sometimes wear this on top of other foundations to add a glow.
IT Cosmetics CC+ Full Coverage Cream– I have the shade Light and it’s my fake-tanned shade, however when I wear this I always get a lot of compliments. It’s dewy, full coverage and so easy to blend. I brought mine from QVC and it came with their Heavenly skin brush -which is flawless fyi.
